MAY - Kickstarter Backed Games

Here at Gaming Lark we’re really passionate about backing indie games and developers. This month we’ve backed 4 exciting new tabletop games explored below.

Petrichor

Developer: Mighty Boards

Players: 1-4

Age Range: 14+

Avg. Playing Time: 20 mins per player

Not only does Petrichor have a really cool name but has a ton of stunning artwork and mechanics which made this a must have for us.

Playing as a cloud the goal is to nurture and harvest as many crops as possible, striking a balance between the two to ensure victory. The game highlights its solo play as engaging with varying difficultly levels but the quality and quirkiness of the concept are what make this game so attractive. We’re kicking ourselves we just weren’t aware of their other project Vengeance and will be keeping an eye out for when it hits the shelves late Summer 2017 if there aren’t any delays.

Maximum Apocalypse

Developer: Rock Manor Games

Players: 1-6

Age Range: 13+

Avg. Playing Time: 45-90mins.

After reaching their funding goals on day 3, Rock Manor Games has not disappointed excited pledgers with stretch goal after stretch goal loaded with additional content.

Maximum Apocalypse is a cooperative roguelike adventure game for 1-6 players focusing on completing one of the various pre-set quests the game provides. Currently with 5 different apocalypse scenarios ranging from nuclear fallout to a robot invasion, players work cooperatively to ensure success utilising battle mechanics and resource management.

If the beautiful artwork doesn’t sway you Rock Manor Games have already successfully launched and shipped a previous indie table topper – Brass Empire. The project has now ended but we’re super stoked to get this into our collection and can’t wait to hear more about the planned expansions and stretch goal additional content Rock Manor Games has planned.

Bullets & Teeth

Developer: Last Ditch Games

Players: 3-5

Age Range: 13+

Avg. Playing Time: 15-20mins

We’re no stranger to a game night fight (looking at you Catan) and so a competitive card game whereby you out run hoards of the living dead by using your friends as bait sounds right up our street. Mixed with some amazing artwork and an incredibly cool zombie origin story with toxoplasmosis and scabby tabbies Bullets and Teeth looks to become a game night regular for us.

If I haven’t convinced you to back this already head over to the Kickstarter page and watch the promotional video, totally worth watching if not only for the hilarious outtakes.

Bios:Genesis

Developer: Sierra Madre Games

Players: 1-4

Age Range: 14+

Avg. Playing Time: 1-2 hours

As a second edition printing Bios:Genesis created a huge buzz when the project went live smashing the goal tenfold and is still going strong. Bios: Genesis has all the features of the first edition with new artwork and a few new tweaks, playing as one of the four qualities of life your goal is to form a microorganism through dice rolls and strategically bought perks, eventually through mutation becoming a macro organism.

Pick carefully though, through crisis and event cards your organism may go extinct however the game doesn’t end there! Invade your competitors organisms  as a symbiote or parasite winning by attaining the most VPs. Not only does this game sound fascinating, Sierra Madre have also added a pledge option to receive Bios:Megafauna the 2nd game in this 3rd part standalone campaign series – TAKE MY MONEY!
